Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

I am so lucky to have the friends that I do. Our time together is priceless! My college bff's and I had our Summer Girl's Weekend on beautiful Lake Oconee in Eatonton. Jill graciously took care of renting the house (which was so nice and right on the water), and we all brought tons of food, gossip, and wine! :) We all arrived on Thursday night and spent the day Friday and Saturday around the neighborhood pool, and celebrated Lauren and Ryals' engagement all weekend long! We are so excited for them!
On Friday night, dinner was at Gaby's at the Ritz followed by Scrabble. On Saturday, we headed to see Friends with Benefits which was hilarious. We may or may not have sneaked in some TJ wine....   I digress. After the movie, we all enjoyed fried seafood at a local restaurant. Afterward we played the game where you stick a card on your forehead and ask questions to figure out what's on your card except we didn't have cards, we had torn up paper towels Indian Poker. We had a ball! It was sad to leave today...but we all make such an effort to be together, so it wont be long before we gather again. Fall Girl's Weekend is at my house! yay!

To our boy, Harmon

Harmon Killebrew was a great American.

Harmon Clayton Killebrew was born 29 June, 1936. He died 17 May, 2011. He was an American professional baseball first baseman, third baseman, and left fielder. During a 22-year baseball career, he played for the Washington Senators, a team which later became the Minnesota Twins, and Kansas City Royals. When he retired, he was second only to Babe Ruth in American League (AL) home runs and was the AL career leader in home runs by a right-handed batter (since broken by Alex Rodriguez). He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984.

Something tells me that Harmon enjoyed a libation every now and again. He was made famous in our circle of friends by toasting to "Harmon!" over an ice cold beverage. His passing was sad, and some of my favorite boys toasted to the great ball player. I wanted to share the homage that was sent via pic message between them.

The Sweet Life

Have you checked out Dylan Lauren's wedding in the August issue of Vogue? Andre Leon Talley, Vogue's fabulous editor at large, attended the wedding in June at the Lauren Family estate in Bedford, New York. My friend, Holly Jordan, also attended the wedding; she and Dylan became good friends when Holly worked for Dylan's Candy Bar in New York. Dylan's dad, Ralph Lauren, designed and made her dress. (Did yall catch the Oprah interview at their place in Colorado? They discussed the wedding in the interview - very sweet.)

When you get a chance, grab the issue - none other than Sarah Jessica Parker is on the cover, and her spread is adorable too.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dylan last summer when I was with Holly in Southampton. It was a quick visit, but true to form, she was as sweet as she could be. And she made a stunning bride.

Birthday Sneak Peek

My and David's vacation was capped off with a surprise birthday party for my Mom's 50th! We shooed her out the door on Friday morning and got to work - she had no idea what we were doing!
A few years ago when we were planning my wedding, our caterer and friend, Leon Holloway, told us about a dinner party where he re-created the final meal served to the first class passengers on the Titanic. He had the reproduction china for us to see, and told us about all these gorgeous food courses, flower arrangements, music - it really got our wheels turning. So, I slipped the idea into my mental file folder, and decided to do that for my mom's 50th birthday. With much help from my Dad, we planned a fun night where she would be surprised and surrounded by all of her best friends. I will have lots of photos of the party when the photographer sends them to me, but wanted to share a sneak peek at the night's festivities!

After Mom left, we cleared out all the furniture from the living room to make way for her birthday present - a new piano - and the long banquet style tables for the dinner.

I was so happy to finally get to this point...I had been planning this for so long!!!!

Griffin Beach Week

On Monday afternoon, David and I drove to Mexico Beach to spend the next couple of days with his dad's side of the family. We love being there with them, and always have fun spending time with the kids and playing games with the cousins. Our time was spent scalloping, beachin', eating delicious food, and hanging with family. On Thursday, we left MB at lunch time to head to Hawkinsville to get ready for the weekend festivities. Here's a few highlights from Mexico Beach!

On Tuesday in MB, David and I along with the kiddos and cousins went scalloping in St. Joe Bay. Once we found our spot, we had lots of luck!

Even Ben and Rodney found a few scallops!

Adorable little Lizzy found a starfish! She was so proud!

And the little boys found sand dollars!

On our last day, David and I spent the whole day on the beach. We even weathered a few rain showers under the tent. The kiddos ran around playing tag...we just watched! ha!
